Croydon Vineyard Estate lies between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. There are
some 8ha of vineyard on the property and all the home owners are also
shareholders in the associated wine company. Croydon wines are highly regarded
internationally and has received a number of awards including a Gold medal at
the 2017 Vitis Vinifera Awards for the newly launched Covenant Shiraz and a
silver medal for the Covenant Chenin Blanc from the Old Mutual Trophy wine
show.
Croydon's winemaker focuses on the three main components of
terroir – climate, soil and the terrain. The “Cape of Storms” climate has
shaped the soil, the vine behaviour and the berry composition. The vineyards
also benefit from a diverse landscape with heavy clay subsoil in some parts of
the vineyard, and sandy soil with a high water table in others.
The Covenant range showcases superior wines from single
cultivars. These wines are created from the purest grapes of the season, and
left to mature into well-balanced and full-bodied wines. The key to Croydon's
wines is capturing the perfections nurtured by nature and the viticulturist in
the vineyards, ensuring this is bottled and suitably matured. The end result is
a distinct experience in wine.
