Abruzzo is an Italian region, east of Rome, with an Adriatic coastline and the Apennine Mountains. National parks and nature reserves cover much of its rugged interior. It also encompasses hilltop towns, dating to the medieval and Renaissance periods. From this stunning region hails one of my favorite wines.  Montepulciano thrives in this region and the 2015 vintage is drinking beautifully now. Grapes are harvested by hand and the wine is aged for 12 months in 300ltr French barriques. Dark ruby with violet undertones, complex berry notes framed with elegant oaked spices. Blackcurrant, spicy cherry integrated with hazelnut and coffee.  Sign me up!!!!
