All the Ahrens wines are address specific, from a unique terroir or Appellation as the French call it. Chenin Blanc is South Africa’s most important white grape and is versatile & well adapted to the warm as well as cooler climates. The Paarl OVC from vineyards dating back to 1977. Grapes are harvested at different ripeness levels in order to create a harmonious balance between rich & ripe Chenin flavours and freshness & acidity of the earlier picking. The aim of this wine is to produce a white wine that defines the Paarl region.
This is an amazing Chenin with sensual acidity & fresh fruit. A typical old vine medium to full mouthfeel, citrus, minerality, hints of tropical fruit & an elegant creamy finish. Wax sealed and beautifully wrapped. A great wine to share with friends over a special dinner.
The wine is in a way the most restraint of all of my Old Vine Chenin’s,
elegant with less expressive fruit and floral notes but rather
mineral, lean and terroir expressive. The wine has a white fruit
profile, slowly developing into a more bright yellow with age.
